Healthier Together

Launch of Healthier Together

The Healthier Together consultation has been launched today (8th July 2014). This follows two years of joint working between CCGs in Greater Manchester and discussions with GP practices, healthcare providers, and other key partners.

The leaders of the local authorities have also been working together with the CCGs to progress the Healthier Together programme to consultation. Healthier Together has also undergone a fairly stringent assurance process with NHS England.

The CCG is urging Bolton people to share their views on proposed changes to NHS services across Greater Manchester. The idea behind Healthier Together is for everyone to get the best care – wherever they live in Greater Manchester.

The main change being consulted on is improvement in high risk surgery, where a patient’s best chance of survival is to see a consultant who regularly performs the procedure they need. With a limited number of surgeons, our proposals are to focus the best 24/7 care for this surgery in four or five sites with teams working together across hospitals. The Royal Bolton Hospital has been identified as a possible specialist centre, along with a number of other hospitals across Greater Manchester. The final decision will be made once the public have had their say.

The CCG is already working with practices to enhance primary care in Bolton to meet the changing needs of patients and work is underway to integrate health and social care. Each part of Greater Manchester is introducing these changes in a way that fits best with the needs of the local population. Right across the region, these initiatives will support the proposed shift in hospital care.

The consultation will run for 12 weeks. During this time, the CCG will be holding public meetings, speaking to local groups, and attending events to talk to local people about the proposed changes. A public meeting will be held on Friday 18th July at the Holiday Inn hotel in Bolton town centre at 11am. Bolton people can find out more about Healthier Together and share their views at We will soon be adding more information to the CCG website and will keep practices updated as the consultation progresses.
